Information on Pride Mobility

There are a lot of things healthy people take for granted, and the simple act of walking from place to place is one of them. Pride Mobility is a company that makes a variety of motorized chairs, scooters and devices to help people disabled by handicap, age or disease get around easier. Pride Mobility products are made for home use, outdoor use and even automobile transportation. Pride Mobility scooters and chairs not only help handicapped individuals get from place to place, they also help prevent further injuries from falls caused by attempting to use lesser equipment. The appropriate appliance greatly improves the quality of life for many incapacitated people.
  1. History

    • Beginning in 1986 Pride Mobility, an offshoot of a former family-run company, began to focus on the needs of handicapped individuals by making lift chairs to help them in and out of a sitting position. That focus soon broadened to include wheelchairs that were powered by motors rather than individual strength that could also travel over many types of ground surfaces.

    Products

    • Pride Mobility develops seven product lines. Its "Jazzy" power chair is a favorite for its ultra-maneuverability, versatility and ease of use. The "Quantum Rehab" chairs come in several styles for those with severe physical limitations due to paralysis or injuries. "Pride Scooters" are extra-rugged, larger units than the power chair and offer excellent stability for outdoor use; they even have baskets on the front for shopping. "Go-Go Travel" is another outdoor travel option. It is a thinner, lighter-weight scooter with more flexibility and maneuverability for users entering tight spaces. Of course, Pride Mobility still has its popular lift chairs to help assist elderly and handicapped individuals in and out of a sitting position in their homes. They also make manual wheelchairs and motorized lifts for automobile transportation of power chair devices.

    Costs

    • Pride Mobility products vary in cost depending on model and make. Most customers find them invaluable and well worth their price. A four-wheel mobility scooter ranges in price between $589 and $1,899, while power chairs average $1,199 to $1,745. Along with the chairs themselves there are maintenance requirements, such as batteries that resemble a car battery and cost about $129. Covers for chairs are also available. Pride Mobility provides products to many distributors, and actual prices can vary from one to another.

    Funding

    • Pride Mobility scooters may be covered by Medicare or other private insurance. Medicare has very stringent qualifications that must be met, and Pride Mobility offers a full explanation of those requirements as well as other private insurance requirements for help in payment of a motorized mobility unit.

Where to Find Pride Mobility Scooters

    • Pride Mobility's main location is in Pennsylvania, but its distribution centers are located in Duryea, Pennsylvania; Chicago; Tampa, Florida; Las Vegas; and Mesquite, Texas. These distribution centers send equipment to many individual sellers and most medical centers and medical equipment companies. There are also excellent online sources for all of the Pride Mobility equipment.
