Administering Medicine

LPNs often give medicine to patients as well as prepping and administering injections. LPNs also monitor patient responses after medicine is taken.
Vital Signs

LPNs must know how to check a patient's vital signs. These include: blood pressure, pulse, height and weight.
Patient Records

LPNs keep track of patients' records. LPNs must be able to make appointments for patients while also keeping track of medicines administered and other treatments received by patients.
Sample Collecting

LPNs collect samples from patients. LPNs take blood and urine samples while also doing minor lab work. A urinalysis is an example of simple blood work done by LPNs.
Management Skills

LPNs may have management responsibilities in long-term care facilities. LPNs may be responsible for overseeing both nursing assistants and orderlies in long-term care settings.
