About Ambulance Technician Training
If you have a desire to delve into the medical field, an exciting career as an ambulance technician is a great way to get a foot in the field of emergency medicine. You can train to respond to crisis situations, and exercise skills such as observation and assessments, dressing wounds, and performing procedures like cardio pulmonary resuscitation (otherwise known as CPR).-
Before You Begin
-
To be suited for this swift role, you will need to be physically fit and able to endure periodic patient transfers, supporting and lifting. You'll also need to have good eyesight and perception.
Driving
-
Another skill you must posses is maneuvering an ambulance through city streets, hectic highways or wherever the emergency exists. So be sure you are comfortable behind the wheel, and at least eighteen years of age, as you will be required to obtain a C1 category driver's license.
The Training
-
Training programs exist everywhere. Technical colleges will be relatively inexpensive and easily accessible, providing classes in early mornings or late evenings.
considerations
-
The course will consist of two segments of study: basic book knowledge and practicing manual handling techniques which include first aid. You will learn anatomy and physiology, clinical procedures, pre-hospital emergency care, and patient transfer techniques. You will obtain your CPR certification and be fully competent to provide critical care.
Completion
-
Upon completing the course and passing a written and practical exam, you will be deemed an "EMT-1." From this platform you may opt to progress to other stages of learning such as "EMT-2," and at last become a paramedic. This involves heavy course work with medical equipment and technology training. Whichever level of education you aim to achieve, all are stimulating, and your education will prepare you to be a successful emergency caregiver.
