1
Insert a study session into your lesson plan. Let it be on Friday. Instead of teaching your nursing students something new, let them break up into groups and review key information. Take a back seat and be available only for questions.
-
2
Turn at least one homework assignment into a game per week. We all know that people gravitate to games regardless of age. So create a crossword puzzle or word fill-in of the main parts of the anatomy. Doing so will motivate your nursing students to study.
-
3
Offer your students various mediums of study. Make them flash cards, create props and record audiotapes. They will help the students optimize their study habits and nursing skills.
-
4
Lessen the amount of homework you give out. Yes, it sounds crazy, but some students buckle under too much pressure. They don't think they can succeed, so they give up without even trying. For this reason, give your nursing students a study schedule they can follow.

Teach your nursing students how to study. Most people are never taught how to organize their study time. They teach themselves and often in the wrong way. So take the time out in the beginning of the first day of class to give them tips. Let them know how to study the material you teach them more effectively and what you did in order to get through nursing school.
