How to Find a Hematologist

Hematologists are doctors who specialize in blood and bone forming tissues, the bone marrow and spleen. A hematologist will see patients with various blood diseases from leukemia to anemia. Hematologists are also trained oncologists and have done residencies in internal medicine.

  Call your insurance provider and ask for a recommendation. Insurance companies will have a list of specialists, including hematologists that accept their coverage.

  Speak to the hospital that you prefer and ask for their hematologist. They should have one on staff. If not, they should be able to recommend a hematologist.

  Contact the American Society of Hematology. They are the largest and widely respected organization of hematologists in the world and can help you. The majority of hematologists register with this organization.
