How to Cancel CareFirst BlueChoice

CareFirst is the largest health care provider covering Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. The health insurer includes more than 80 percent of the providers in Maryland and is affiliated with more than 165 hospitals in Northern Virginia, D.C. and Maryland. Members can choose from a number of different medical plans that best suit their needs. The BlueChoice plan provides the cost savings of an HMO with 365 days of hospital coverage and preventative care including routine exams and office visits. Members who no longer wish to be covered under BlueChoice can cancel their plan at anytime.

  Call CareFirst BlueChoice Member Services at [phone] Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. -- 7 p.m. EST.

  Give the member services representative your health care ID number and notify them that you would like to cancel your plan. Your plan will be cancelled on the date you specify. You can also specify to have your plan immediately cancelled, effective the same day.

  Check your email. BlueCross BlueShield CareFirst will send you an email confirming your plan cancellation. If you cancelled your plan in the middle of a billing cycle, you will receive a refund for an amount equal to the portion of the month you didn't use. The check will be sent in the mail and may take up to a month to receive.
