New Hampshire Medicaid Benefits

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services provides health care to low income state residents through the Medicaid program. A Medicaid applicant must meet state requirements and be under set income limits to receive the services. New Hampshire Medicaid benefits are available for all those who qualify, including children.
  1. Requirements

    • A person who wants to apply for New Hampshire's Medicaid program must be a legal U.S. citizen or alien, a resident of the state and have a Social Security number. Income limits vary by household size and composition. A household of two cannot have more than $675 per month in income as of 2011, but if a child is one of the household members, the child can be covered if the total income doesn't exceed $1,670.

    Applying

    • All New Hampshire Medicaid applications must be filled out and returned to the local district office. The applicant must provide information about all members of the household, such as name, money earned and Social Security number. Documentation of income, like pay stubs, and proof of utility and shelter bills must be submitted. Additional information is sometimes required, depending on household composition and expenses.

    Covered Services

    • New Hampshire's Medicaid program covers a wide variety of services for adults and children. Routine and preventive care is included, as well as rural medical clinics, family planning, vision, prescription drugs, basic therapies, hospital care, dental services and nursing or home care. Mental health services are covered, and those recipients who speak a second language are eligible for an interpreter for visits with medical professionals.

    Medical Review

    • A person who is experiencing a costly or chronic illness may be eligible for coverage even if her income exceeds the limit, or she may qualify for additional Medicaid services. The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services, using a medical team, reviews the applicant's medical history and records to determine special medical eligibility on a case by case basis.
