Health Care Benefits for Military

Health care benefits are available for all active duty military personnel. Members of all seven uniformed military must sign up for a Tricare Prime option that meets their needs. Choices include Prime, Prime Remote, Prime Overseas or Prime Remote Overseas. Other plans are available for reservists and military families.
  1. Care Providers

    • Tricare members can receive health care from military treatment facilities or network providers. After enrollment, you will have a care manager who will direct you to providers in your region and coordinate any out-of-network care you may require.

    Costs

    • Active duty service personnel and their families have no enrollment fees when signing up for Tricare. There are no out-of-pocket costs for care as long as the Tricare Prime subscriber uses a network provider or has a referral. Other plans may require a $12 co-pay for network providers and $11 per-day for inpatient care. Military facilities have no co-pay for any Tricare plan.

    Medical Coverage

    • Tricare provides the same services as health insurance providers for non-military individuals and families. Outpatient care, hospitalization, prevented services, maternity care, immunizations and mental health are covered under the plan. Subscribers can add dental and vision services to their policy by applying for coverage and paying monthly premiums.

    Prescription Coverage

    • Subscribers have the option of filling their prescriptions at military treatment facilities, a mail order service or a member of the Tricare retail pharmacy network. You can fill prescriptions at a non-network pharmacy but will have to pay the full price of the prescription and file with Tricare for partial reimbursement after you meet your deductible. Co-pays on prescriptions are dependent on the type of medicine, pharmacy and your plan type.
