While the ability to move freely is priceless, the cost of the equipment can be pricey. Since movement is essential to a healthy lifestyle, Medicare will contribute toward the PMD if deemed medically necessary. Schedule an evaluation by your primary physician. Before Medicare will approve your PMD, the doctor must determine the device is necessary.

Experience mobility limitation. Your inability to move must be prevent you from performing at least one mobility-related daily activity. Activities typically include eating, using the toilet, bathing and grooming.

Receive confirmation from your doctor that you do not suffer from any conditions that impair your ability to carry out daily tasks with the PMD. Such impairments include vision, cognitive and judgment.

Rule out other movement aids, such as a walker or cane. Your environment must also allow the use of the PMD for all mobility-related activities.

Demonstrate the capability, physical strength and stability to operate the equipment safely.
