Medicaid Income Guidelines in Arkansas

You may qualify for Arkansas Medicaid if you meet income guidelines based on your household size. However, individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income, Transitional Employment Assistance or Aid to Families with Dependent Children are automatically eligible for coverage.   1. Adults

    • Pregnant women may receive Arkansas Medicaid if their income does not exceed 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level. As of 2010, able-bodied adults with eligible dependents may qualify if their monthly income does not exceed $204 for a family of three. Medicaid recipients may deduct up to 60 percent of their income before the income test applies. Additionally, women may qualify for Medicaid family planning services if their income is at or below 200 percent of the FPL.

    Children

    • Children under age 6 qualify for free Medicaid coverage if the household income does not exceed 133 percent of the FPL. Children ages 6 to 19 may be eligible for benefits at no cost if the family income does not exceed 100 percent of the FPL. Individuals up to age 19 may enroll in the ARKids B Medicaid plan if their income is at or below 200 percent of the FPL. ARKids B requires member co-pays based on income.

    Elderly and Disabled

    • As of 2010, adults age 65 or older and disabled individuals may be eligible if their monthly income does not exceed $674 for individuals or $1,011 for couples after allowable deductions. Medicaid provides co-pay, deductible and premium payment assistance to Medicare members if their income does not exceed $722 to $1,218.38 monthly. Medicare recipients at the lower end of the income limit may be eligible for full Medicaid benefits. Working disabled individuals may earn up to $2,256 monthly or $3,035.42 for couples.

    Spend Down

    • Pregnant women, children, elderly and disabled individuals who earn more than the traditional Medicaid income guidelines may qualify for benefits by deducting medical bills from their income. As of 2010, a family of three may earn $275 monthly excluding standard deductions and medical bills.

    Other Categories

    • Adults under age 65 diagnosed with cervical or breast cancer may qualify for treatment if their monthly income does not exceed 200 percent of the FPL. Additionally individuals testing positive for tuberculosis may be eligible for benefits if their income is at or below $1,805 monthly.
