Secondary Dental Plans Compatible With Delta Dental
If you are covered by Delta Dental, but would like to add on additional coverage with a secondary dental insurance plan, there are numerous options available. Once you make Delta Dental your primary insurance coverage, it will be compatible with a variety of other insurance policies. Keep in mind that some insurance policies will not be available in all areas. Always check with the company to get a personalized quote. In addition, dental insurance plans are very different from dental discount plans. While those discount plans can assist consumers in saving money, they do not constitute actual insurance coverage.-
Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Dental Coverage
-
Anthem, a Blue Cross and Blue Shield company, offers dental coverage in several states. If your state isn't covered, there may be another Blue Cross subsidiary in your area that offers a dental insurance plan that can be used as a secondary dental plan.
Coverage for visits, x-rays and cleanings starts immediately but there is a six month waiting period for fillings and more serious dental work. This is a PPO plan and you will need to make sure that your dentist is on their list of providers.
United Health One
-
A national provider of dental insurance with coverage available in most areas, United Health One offers 100% coverage for routine visits, making it an ideal plan to have as a secondary plan, particularly if you are concerned about paying too much. The plan provides coverage at 80% if you have fillings or a tooth extraction after the waiting period has been completed.
In addition, this plan covers 50% of major restorative work such as bridges or dentures.
For those without a dentist in their area that is part of the United Health One network, a premier plan is available for additional coverage.
Aetna Dental Insurance
-
Aetna is another major insurance provider that offers dental coverage in most areas. Their PPO plan allows you to see any licensed dentist and receive coverage, or the DMO plan option allows you to select a primary dentist. There is no co-pay for office visits with the PPO plan, and the DMO plan features a low cost co-copay. Most procedures are covered without a deductible but there are some cases where the insurance plan would not cover 100% of the services you receive. However as a secondary insurance plan, this should not be an issue.
