How to Check Florida Medicaid Eligibility
Low-income families with children, pregnant women and disabled Florida residents who are unable to afford private health insurance can apply for Medicaid to receive free medical coverage. Medicaid is a federal health care program that provides medical care to these specific groups. The state shares the cost of this program. Each state sets its own guidelines regarding eligibility and available services. Within each group of individuals that Florida Medicaid covers, there are certain eligibility requirements and income limits applicants must meet to receive assistance.Things You'll Need

Visit Florida's ACCESS website. It includes a prescreening tool that determines if Florida residents qualify for state- and federally-funded assistance programs such as Medicaid. The prescreening process involves answering questions about your household size, income, total assets, monthly expenses, such as rent or mortgage payments, other expenses like child care, and medical expenses. In addition to answering these questions, documents are required, such as recent pay stubs or income statements for all working household members or individuals who receive disability or Social Security. You will also need bank statements, a list of your assets and their respective values for all household members and court-ordered alimony documents.

Answer each question in the prescreening application as thoroughly as possible. Identify the number of people living in your home, including yourself, and record the ages of each household member. Enter the number of pregnant and working household members, as well as household members who are currently enrolled in Medicare.
-
3
Use income statements, bank statements and asset lists from all household members to add up the household's total monthly earned income. Use a list of the household expenses to supply amounts for bills such as rent or mortgage, outstanding medical expenses as well as child or adult care costs.
-
4
Press the "Continue" button when you complete the prescreening questionnaire. The next page will show a prescreening summary, in which you may go back and correct any errors before proceeding.
-
5
Click "Continue" again to determine if you are eligible for Florida Medicaid. The prescreening tool will assess your answers to the questions and compare the amounts you entered for your household's total income and assets to Florida's Medicaid income and asset limits. If you are eligible and wish to apply for Medicaid, click the "Apply Online" button at the bottom of the results page to complete an application for Medicaid benefits.
