How to Find My Medicaid Number

The federally and state-funded Medicaid program allows those who are economically disadvantaged to enroll in a health plan to receive medical insurance benefits. With Medicaid, you're often able to choose a primary care physician, get help with prescriptions and receive proper medical care when sick. When you apply and are approved for Medicaid, you receive a specific number to help identify you as a Medicaid recipient.

  Look at your Medicaid insurance card. Note the number listed as your "Case Number" or other similarly named number. This is your Medicaid number.

  Look on any enrollment paperwork or correspondence you've received from your county Medicaid office, the department of job and family services, health and human services or the department through which you applied for Medicaid. Look for a Medicaid "Case Number" listed on the paperwork.

  Call the managed care plan or health insurance organization in which you're enrolled. Give the representative your name, address and Social Security number to confirm your identity. Ask the managed care plan or organization representative if she can find your Medicaid number or help you locate it.

  Call the county social services department through which you applied to Medicaid. Give the representative your Social Security number and ask if he can tell you your Medicaid number. Or ask to speak with your Medicaid caseworker, as this is a person who can also give out your Medicaid number.
