COBRA insurance is available for employees to use after they leave their jobs, but often cost of COBRA is prohibitive, leaving people to look for more affordable health insurance options. There are affordable options available which provide a minimum amount of coverage for a short period of time.

  Contact an insurance agent to look for short term health insurance. Short term health insurance has a very high deductible and does not cover well visits. It is insurance that will cover medical emergencies such as appendicitis or a gall bladder attack. It will not cover preexisting conditions.

  Apply for the health care coverage that is the most affordable for your needs. If you have preexisting conditions COBRA or a spouse's plan may be the best options. Otherwise short term health insurance serves as an affordable option against medical emergencies.
