The Guidelines for Minnesota Ucare

UCare is an independent, non-profit health insurance plan for individuals in Minnesota and Wisconsin. UCare serves members of state and federal health programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid. To qualify for UCare, individuals must meet the guidelines set by those government-funded programs.
  1. About UCare

    • The University of Minnesota established UCare in 1984 as a demonstration project to help low-income residents in Hennepin County stay with their doctors. Since then, UCare has grown to provide health insurance to more than 200,000 people across Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin.

    Eligibility Guidelines

    • To become a member of UCare, individuals must be eligible for Medicare, be disabled or qualify for a health program provided by the State of Minnesota, including MinnesotaCare, Minnesota Senior Care Plus or Medical Assistance.Those interested in UCare must first enroll in one of these Minnesota Health Care Programs through the Minnesota Department of Health and Human Services.

    Programs

    • UCare offers several programs specific to members' age and health care needs. For families and individuals, UCare provides the health plan for MinnesotaCare and Medical Assistance. UCare of Seniors is available for those who are eligible for Medicare. UCare Connect and UCare Complete are available for individuals with disabilities.
