About Assurant Short-Term Health Insurance
-
Function
-
Assurant short-term health plans are designed to provide coverage during periods of time that you are uninsured. These temporary losses of coverage could be due to job loss or temporary employment with no benefits.
Features
-
A major feature to the Assurant short-term plan is that you can be covered the day after you apply. According to the Assurant criteria, you must be a healthy individual between the ages of 30 days and 65 years. Dependent college students are covered up to age 24 in the family plan.
Considerations
-
The Assurant short-term plans are designed mainly to provide you with a safety net, for a maximum of six months, in the event of a medical emergency such as an accident or major illness. If you are shopping for temporary insurance due to job loss, find out if COBRA benefits are a better fit for you and your family. Although COBRA may be more expensive, you'll be able to continue your previous plan's benefits, you will be eligible for a longer time and you will not have to worry about pre-existing conditions.
