What Types of Health Care Insurance Does State Farm Offer?

State Farm began providing insurance coverage to consumers in 1922. As of 2010, the company offers auto insurance, homeowner's insurance, life insurance, health insurance and disability insurance. In addition, the company offers investment products to its customers. Unlike many other insurance companies, State Farm is owned by its policyholders. The company employs 17,000 agents to work with policyholders and currently holds over 80 million insurance policies, of which one million are health insurance policies.
  1. Individual Medical Coverage

    • One trip to the emergency room can be costly for individuals who do not have any medical coverage. Some individuals benefit from lower insurance premium costs through their employers. For those who are not eligible for medical coverage through their employer, State Farm offers individual medical coverage. Purchasers can choose from high deductible health plans and preferred provider plans. Purchasers who choose a high deductible health plan are also eligible to open a health savings account. A health savings account allows the individual to save money in a tax deferred account until it is needed for medical expenses.

    Medicare Supplement Insurance

    • Medicare recipients quickly learn that their coverage does not cover 100 percent of their medical expenses. They are responsible for deductibles and co-payment amounts throughout the year. There may also be certain doctors, hospitals or services that are not covered which the recipient will need to pay for out-of-pocket. State Farm offers Medicare supplement insurance to help cover the out-of-pocket costs experienced by the recipient. In order to be eligible for Medicare supplement insurance, the individual must be enrolled in the original Medicare Plan, Parts A and B and be over 65 years old. Disabled individuals under age 65 or those suffering from kidney disease may also be eligible. Plans vary by state.

    Medicare Part D Coverage

    • Medicare recipients who are enrolled in Medicare Part A or B and need prescription drug coverage may choose to purchase a prescription drug plan through State Farm. State Farm partnered with Humana to provide three options for Medicare recipients shopping for a prescription drug plan, or PDP. The Humana PDP Standard provides a minimum amount of coverage. The Humana PDP Enhanced provides broader coverage for recipients and includes co-payment amounts. This plan does not include a deductible. The Humana PDP Complete offers the highest level of coverage. It includes fixed co-payment amounts and does not include deductibles.
