Ohio State Health Insurance Assistance Programs
The Ohio Department of Health and its Division of Family and Community Health Services provides health care services to Ohio residents that are uninsured and underinsured. The state-sponsored health insurance assistance programs assure access to appropriately trained health care professionals, health services for residents with special needs and early intervention services for babies and toddlers.-
Ohio Medicaid

Medicaid is one of the Ohio state health insurance assistance programs that provides medical coverage to residents without health insurance and is broken into categories to serve specific groups. The Healthy Start program provides coverage for children under the age of 19 and families with children under 19 as well as pregnant women that have income levels up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Healthy Families is an Ohio Medicaid program for families with at least one child under age 19 with income levels up to 90 percent of the poverty level. People applying for Medicaid must be Ohio state residents, U.S. citizens or legal aliens, have or can get a social security number and meet income guidelines. Low income residents that need Medicaid assistance can apply at their local county department of job and family services in person, by fax or by mail. ABD Medicaid

Older adult residents and people with disabilities may qualify to receive primary and acute care benefits as well as long term care from the Aged, Blind and Persons with Disabilities plan of Ohio Medicaid. Eligible participants include Ohio residents age 65 and older, those with disabilities classified under the Social Security Administration or are considered legally blind. Applicants for this health insurance assistance program must provide proof of age or disability, income and other insurance coverage as well as be interviewed in person at a local department of job and family services office. Applicants may send an authorized representative to the interview that are age 18 or older with a written notice detailing the duties the representative are permitted to complete on their behalf. BCCP Medicaid

The Breast and Cervical Cancer Project is an initiative of the Ohio Department Health that provides health coverage assistance to eligible women diagnosed through this program. This assistance is available for women that are Ohio residents, uninsured, meet basic Medicaid requirements and need treatment for cervical and/or breast cancer as well as precancerous conditions. Participants of this Medicaid program receive full and acute care benefits in addition to cancer treatments and care through the fee-for-service plan. Women that are eligible for Medicaid programs that require managed care enrollment will receive services through a managed care plan.
