• Aetna has offices located in the state of Maine and offers health insurance plans to individuals, families and small business owners, including those who are self-employed. As of 2010, Aetna offered Maine residents two health plan options known as the Individual Standard HMO and the Individual Basic HMO. The Standard HMO plan offers a lower copay and higher lifetime maximums for covered services. Both the Standard HMO and the Basic HMO plans provide coverage for routine doctors' visits to a primary care physician in addition to well baby checkups, maternity coverage, chiropractic care, ambulance and emergency room visits, and surgical treatment. Visits to out-of-network providers may not be covered unless authorized by a primary care physician, and Aetna may require prior approval for coverage of some medical services and treatment.
