How do I Add Health Coverage for a Spouse With United Health Care?

If your spouse has recently lost his job---and, most probably, his health insurance---you'll want to add him to yours as soon as possible. This might also be the case if you've just gotten married and your spouse is not working, doesn't have health insurance or wants to change health insurance plans. Whatever your situation, adding your spouse to your United Healthcare plan involves calling United Healthcare and discussing your options with a representative.

Instructions

    • 1

Call United Healthcare at 888-545-5205 from Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. When the agent answers, inform him that you'd like to add your spouse to your policy.

    • 2

Hand the phone to your spouse. The spouse must provide personal information including full name, birth date and Social Security number. He also must answer a series of health questions to determine his eligibility.

    • 3

Take the phone back from your spouse when he's done providing his information. After determining his eligibility, the representative informs you how much adding your spouse to your plan increases your monthly premiums. Provide verbal authorization if you wish to add your spouse.

    • 4

Complete and return any paperwork you receive in the mail, including a document both you and your spouse must sign indicating that you agree to the terms and conditions of your health plan.
