Information on Veterans Insurance

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines (World War II), Reservists and Coast Guard, who have given active military service, qualify for benefits offered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Some of these benefits include life insurance, health insurance, loans and unemployment insurance.
  1. Life Insurance

    • Veterans are eligible for life insurance coverage ranging from $10,000 to $400,000, including a package called the Family Group Life Insurance (FGLI) that covers a spouse and children. The Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) is a standard policy offered to military members upon entrance to the armed forces and provides coverage up to 120 days following separation from the military.

    Medical Benefits

    • Veterans Affairs (VA) offers a medical benefits package to all qualified U.S. veterans, which includes outpatient and inpatient care within the VA health care system. Veterans enrolled in the VA health care system can be seen at any VA facility in the U.S.

    Dental

    • Though not as extensive as its health care benefit, the VA does offer a one-time dental treatment to veterans if treatment was not provided within 90 days prior to the veteran's discharge from military duty. This benefit is good for up to 180 days following military discharge.
