How to File for Medical & Dental Assistance Online

Medical and dental assistance allows you to get medical care and dental care even if you can’t afford the traditional health or dental insurance, or if you can’t afford to pay for the services outright. There are lots of different types of medical and dental assistance, so if you don’t get approved for one type, you can continue to apply.

  Apply for Medicaid online at the Medicaid website. Click “Online Application” and fill out the application with your information, your age, your location, your employment status, and information about other types of income and expenditures that you have. When you submit the form, you will need to wait several weeks to hear back from Medicaid. In most situations, it is quicker to apply for Medicaid through your state.

  Click on your state’s site for medical assistance. Each state has its own site, which can be found through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

  Find individual medical and dental assistance programs in your area by looking at the Heath Resources and Services Administration's website. It lists programs in your area that are need based. It also lists clinics that accept payments based on your income. (See Resources). Input your address information and click "Find Health Centers" to get the results of the government's listings for centers to try. Then call each center to ask about the specific programs they offer and about the costs for these programs. If a website is listed, click on the website and follow the steps for "Apply Online."

  Go to the website of the pharmacuetical companies that make any drugs you might need or take. Look at the site and click "Apply for Aid" or "Learn about Payment Options" or "Get Help Paying for Medicine" if you see a link. Many companies have plans you can apply for to help with the costs of your prescription drugs.
