How to Change an Address for a Health Card Online

Most health care insurance companies offer customers the ability to access plan information online as well as make basic changes to personal data such as contact information (address, phone or email). Once you change an old address to a new one, the health insurance company---depending on your company's policies---calls to confirm the change or simply sends confirmation via postal mail or email that you made a change. The company may also mail out a new health card with a new member or account ID if account number assignment in the insurer's records is based on a person's geographic location.

Instructions

Check the front and back of your card for the website address for your health insurance provider. If you already know the address, skip this step.

    • 2

Go to your health insurance provider's website and log in to your online account with your ID and password. Every company differs in regard to the type of ID requested. You may need to input a login or username name that you selected when you set up the account, your email address or your member/subscriber or account ID. If you haven't set up an online account, register by following your insurer's specific registrations instructions. Typically, this involves clicking a "registration" or "sign up" link on the access screen, inputting your information---including the member or account ID printed on your card---and then confirming your desire to register. In some cases, your insurer may require that you click a link in an email sent by the insurer to confirm your registration.

    • 3

Access the address change area offered by your health insurance provider. Go to the address section of your health insurance account management or profile page or an address change Web form. Typically, this involves clicking a link or tab marked "settings," "account settings," "manage account," "profile," "change profile" or some other similar verbiage; or a link or tab marked "change address" or "address change request form."

Delete the old address and then input the new one. Save the change when finished. If the screen asks you to confirm the change, click the appropriate confirmation button or tab---the site may ask if you want to make this change and expect you to click "yes" or "OK" to confirm---and/or click the confirmation link sent to you via email. If you completed an address change request Web form, confirmation may arrive via email or you may receive a call from a representative to confirm the change request and/or verify any unclear information.
