What is an lvad?

An LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) is a mechanical pump that helps the heart pump blood. It is a type of mechanical circulatory support (MCS) device used to treat patients with advanced heart failure. LVADs are implanted inside the chest and work by drawing blood from the heart's left ventricle and pumping it through the aorta, the large artery that carries blood to the body. LVADs help to reduce the workload of the heart and improve blood flow to the body, allowing patients with heart failure to live longer and have a better quality of life.
