The organization offers affordable housing with reliable interest rates and lower mortgage payments than traditional banks. Habitat for Humanity houses have not only affordable mortgage rates, but also skill building opportunities for successful applicants; houses are built by the prospective home owner, community volunteers, family and friends.

Having a strong support network and supportive friends, particularly those who understand the challenges of independent living for individuals afflicted with particular life challenges, is a key factor in independent living success. Independent living resource centers exist in many towns and cities. These centers offer lists of community resources, employment assistance, counselling services and of course, a much-needed support network. Internet Access and Online Technology Support

A great tool for individuals living on their own is Internet access. Having Internet access provides many opportunities for making friends, researching health issues and joining on-line channels for those living on their own. Although Internet access can be costly, public libraries often have free Internet access. Government programs and community assistance programs donate computers for individuals with reduced incomes.
