What Department of Government is the FDA?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was created to protect the health of all Americans. Several agencies fall under this department, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.-

The Food and Drug Administration was created in 1906 under the Federal Food and Drugs Act. In 1988, the FDA was officially established as an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services.
Structure

The FDA is headquartered in Silver Spring, Md., and consists of nine offices and centers. These offices include six product centers, one research center and two offices.
Purpose

The primary purpose of the FDA is to ensure the safety and effectiveness of foods, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics, vaccines, veterinary medicine and radiation-emitting objects. It is also responsible for the regulation of tobacco products. The FDA is also responsible for creating expedited methods to get safe, effective foods and drugs to the American people.
