How to Find Your NHS Number

National Health Service (NHS) is the publicly funded health care system in the UK. Anyone registered with the National Health Service in Wales and England has a unique NHS number. If you were not born in England or Wales, you will need to approach a health center, an NHS GP surgery or a Primary Care Trust (PCT) to get your NHS number. This 10-digit number helps the healthcare staff trace your health records.

  Look for the number on your medical card (FP4). The 10-digit NHS number is typically found there. If your medical card is more than eight years old, it will show your old NHS number.

  Ask your general physician to look through your medical history notes to find the NHS number.

  Contact your local Primary Care Trust (PCT) and ask them to trace the NHS number for you. They will determine your NHS number from your past medical records.
