How to Use One Touch Ultra

The One Touch Ultra is a mechanical device that helps people measure their blood sugar at home. It is often used by diabetics who need to keep daily track of their blood sugar levels in order to maintain good health. It also allows users to save results for review at a later date. These results can be shown to doctors and healthcare professionals to help them keep track of a patient's progress.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the owner's booklet and instruction manual thoroughly and carefully before starting to use the One Touch Ultra.

    • 2

Turn on the One Touch Ultra by pressing the down arrow for five seconds.

    • 3

Use the up/down arrows to set the current date and time. The up arrow goes forward, the down arrow goes backward. Use the up/down arrows to set the hour and minutes as well as the year, month and day.

    • 4

Wait five seconds between each setting to allow the entry to be saved.

    • 5

Turn off the meter by pressing the down arrow for two seconds. The meter must be off before you insert a test strip.

    • 6

Prepare a test strip for use. Check the code on the test strip before inserting it into the meter. Make sure it matches the code on the meter. Use the up/down arrows to find the correct code on the meter before you insert the strip.

    • 7

Insert the strip into the meter and push it in as far as it will go. Make sure the three contact bars are facing toward you. Do not bend the strip.

    • 8

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before drawing a blood sample.

    • 9

Snap off the blue cap from the One Touch Ultra Lancing Device.

    • 10

Insert the lancet into the opening revealed after snapping off the blue cap. Twist off the protective cap from atop the lancet.

    • 11

Snap the blue cap back onto the lancing device. The device is labeled 1 through 9 for puncture depths. The higher numbers are for deeper punctures and the lower numbers are for shallow punctures. Choose the puncture depth you want by twisting the blue cap.

    • 12

Cock the lancing device by sliding the control back until it clicks.

    • 13

Hold the lancing device tightly against your finger and press the release button, then remove the device.

    • 14

Massage your finger until a drop (at least one microliter) of blood comes out. If the blood smears, do not use it. Puncture a new site instead.

    • 15

Hold the drop of blood against the top edge of the testing strip. The blood will get drawn into the confirmation window of the strip. Be careful not to smear, scrape or spread the blood. Your blood glucose level will appear digitally on the screen of the One Touch Ultra Meter and become automatically stored in the meter's memory.

    • 16

Remove the lancet and discard after finishing the test. The meter will turn off automatically.
