Who to Complain to About Bad Doctors
If you have had a bad experience with a doctor or in a physician's office, it can be important to speak with the doctor's office or complain if they have broken the law.-
Doctor's Office
-
A first step in complaining about a bad doctor, may be the doctor's office itself. Speak with your physician or even the office manager. If you have a problem doing this face to face, consider writing a letter to discuss what happened.
BBB
-
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) can accept complaints from consumers for a variety of businesses, including bad doctors. This can help warn others about potential problems and the BBB can acts as an intermediary between you and the business.
Ombudsman
-
The Healthcare Commission is one place where you can file complaints. They are supposed to contact you back within 10 business days. If you start legal proceedings against your physician, the health service ombudsman's office will probably not get involved.
State Medical Board
-
If you are unhappy with your physician, you can discuss the problem with the state medical board. If the state believes that the claim is legitimate, the medical board will begin an investigation and may even submit your case to the attorney general. A medical board has the authority to revoke the licenses of bad doctors.
Tip
-
Before filing a complaint, right down exactly what happened, any associated dates and who was involved. This can help to clarify the process so you can make sure that all the information is accurate.
