How to Find Financial Help to Get Hearing Aids
Hearing aids can cost thousands of dollars, and unfortunately, many health insurance companies don't provide coverage if you need the devices. If you don't have the money to buy hearing aids, you need to find alternative ways to pay for the devices. Fortunately, you can find help to finance your hearing aids if you know where to look.-
Ask your Doctor
-
Your doctor can be an invaluable resource to obtain financing and/or a discount if you need hearing aids. He may have direct contacts within hearing aid companies or can contact these companies on your behalf to inquire about purchasing hearing aids at a discount. Some companies that manufacturer hearing aids do provide discounts or financing, but may not advertise that fact to the general public. However, your doctor likely will be aware of any companies that do provide the help you need.
Medicaid
-
If you are covered under Medicaid and live in a state that provides coverage for hearing deficiencies, you may be able to get free hearing aids and other associated services. For example, if you live in Kentucky or Maine, you will not be able to get financing, supplemental service or free hearing aids. However, if you are covered by Medicaid and live in Minnesota, you can get free hearing aids, hearing aid checks and accessories.
Private Organizations
-
Many private organizations offer loans, financing, discounted and/or free hearing aids based on immediate need and the applicant's financial situation. Lions Club International, Rotary International and the Hear Now Foundation are examples of organizations you can seek financing from. These organizations not only provide financing for hearing aids, but also offer referrals for free hearing tests and checkups. Contact each organization to inquire about their eligibility requirements, such as membership information.
Apply for Financing
-
Many audiology clinics provide specialized financing for hearing aids through a third-party service provider. These third-party providers work with clinics to provide financing tailored for the clinic's customers. For example, you are not required to visit the third-party's office to apply for financing; you can complete the form at the audiology clinic. In many cases, you will know if you are approved for financing within 24 hours. Additionally, some audiology clinics will also provide a payment plan for their patients.
