How to Find Free Hearing Aid Information

With rising costs of everything from gas to groceries, it may be hard for some without health insurance to afford to hear properly. If you are hard of hearing or experience some kind of hearing loss, a trip to the doctor could help you immensely. To get a hearing aid, you must have a physician and a prescription. Learn how to obtain free or low cost hearing aids and cochlear implants.

      Contact your local Lion's Club by phone or email and ask about the LCIF program (see Resources). This is a program that the Lions offer to low income or uninsured persons who cannot afford a hearing aid but are in dire need of one. There are a few sheets of paper that must be filled out, and a few sheets your physician has to fill out. But when given back to the Lion's Club, they vote on helping or not and in turn you have the opportunity to choose the type of hearing aid you want from a list of ones they offer to pay for.

      Contact your local Sertoma Club by phone or email to inquire about the SHARPS program. They offer help in obtaining hearing aids at no cost to you if you meet certain criteria. They work with local hospitals and non-profit organizations to get free or low cost hearing aids to those who are in need. You can send an email to [email protected] including your name and contact information, and your local chapter will contact you on how to further the process.

      Call the Starkey Hearing Foundation at 1-800-648-4327 to ask about the Hear Now Aid. There will be a paper application required, and it will be sent by mail if you do not have Internet access. If you want to apply online, see Resources for the link.

      Contact your local Shriners, Moose Lodge or Fraternal Order of The Eagles and ask about the charity work they provide for hearing aids. The President or member assisting you can give you all the paperwork associated with the opportunity that they are able to assist with and possibly give you phone numbers to other places that help.

      Call your local Health Department and ask about help paying for hearing aids. They can give you a list of local hospitals or clinics as well as non-profit organizations that will give you help in some form to help afford the hearing that you so desperately need and want.
