What is STD NGU?
STD NGU or Non Gonococcal Urethritis (NGU), is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that causes inflammation of the urethra in males and the cervix in females. It is usually caused by bacteria other than Neisseria gonorrhea, the bacteria that causes gonorrhea.
Symptoms of NGU:
- Males: pain or burning sensation when urinating, frequent urination, whitish or clear discharge from the penis
- Females: lower abdominal pain, pain during intercourse, abnormal vaginal discharge
Treatment for NGU:
- Antibiotics commonly prescribed for NGU include azithromycin, doxycycline, or ciprofloxacin
- Both partners should be treated to prevent re-infection
- Safe sex practices, including condom use, should be followed to reduce the risk of transmission
Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to prevent complications, such as infertility and pelvic inflammatory disease.
