1
Check to see if you qualify for Healthy Indiana. This is a special program to provide low-cost health insurance to those who are self-employed or who do not otherwise have coverage from an employer. Your income must be 200 percent or less of the federal poverty guideline to qualify.

2
Talk to major insurance carriers about an individual or family plan. Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield and Cigna both offer health insurance in Indiana. You can purchase individual insurance directly through these companies.
-
3
Join a high-risk pool for the "uninsurable." If you have a preexisting condition, such as diabetes or prior open heart surgery, you may be unable to get a health insurance plan directly from an insurance company. Indiana has a high-risk pool for those who would not otherwise be able to get insurance. Join through the Indiana Comprehensive Health Association.

Look for insurance through professional organizations. If you belong to a professional association, such as the Chamber of Commerce or a group specialized for your trade, you may be able to purchase insurance through it.
