How to Use a TENS 7000

Current Solutions produces and distributes the TENS 7000 electrotherapy device. This is a Class II medical unit that the federal government restricts to sale by licensed health care professionals, or on their order. It is available for home use only under prescription. The TENS 7000 is a portable device for relieving chronic and intractable pain, and pain resulting from operations and post-traumatic stress disorders. There are five treatment modes to choose from, and you can use two or four electrode pads depending on the size of the pain area.

Instructions

    • 1
The TENS 7000 uses a 9-volt alkaline or rechargeable battery.

Insert a 9-volt battery into the compartment on the back on the device.

Connect a lead wire into the electrode pad connector, making sure that no bare wire is showing, and repeat for the second electrode pad. If you need two areas of pain treated, connect the second lead wire to the other two electrode pads.

    • 2
L-shaped plugs connect to the TENS 7000.

Check that the TENS 7000 unit is turned off, and connect the L-shaped plug of the lead wire into the channel 1 outlet on top of the unit. If you are using the second pair of electrodes, connect the second lead wire into the channel 2 socket on top of the unit.

It is important to clean the skin before using electrode pads.

Wash the pain area with soap and water, and pat dry. Apply rubbing alcohol to the skin with a cotton ball to remove any further grease or soap residue. This creates a clean surface to maximize the effectiveness of the electrode.

Use a skin preparation as your health care practitioner directs. Commonly this is a water-based gel that helps optimize the electrical conductivity through the skin.

    • 4
Place the electrode pads as directed by your doctor.

Remove the protective film from the underside of the electrode pad and place it on one side of the pain area. If the pad is not self-adhesive, tape it to the skin with medical tape. Stick the second electrode pad on the opposing side of the pain area. Your doctor should direct the exact placement of electrode pads for the TENS 7000.

Use the set button to adjust pulse frequency on the TENS 7000.

Turn the TENS 7000 unit on, and turn the channel 1 amplitude knob clockwise until it beeps twice. Set the mode button to the setting that your health care professional recommends. Adjust the pulse rate and width using the set button, and select the appropriate setting.

    • 6

Set the timer to the length of treatment as directed by your health care professional. The time can be set in five-minute increments up to 90 minutes; there's also a continuous mode. Increase the amplitude of the stimulation by turning the channel 1 amplitude knob clockwise to the advised setting. Set the channel 2 amplitude using the channel 2 knob if you use both sets of electrodes.

    • 7

Turn off the TENS 7000 when the treatment timer finishes. Remove the electrode pads and disconnect the lead wires from the channel sockets. Disconnect the wires from the electrode pads, and pack the TENS 7000 unit away in its carrier case. Wash any gel off your skin, and gently pat the area dry.
