Home Health Care Regulation in Ohio

The Ohio Home Care Program provides home health care for Medicaid recipients. The program is regulated by the Bureau of Long Term Care Services & Supports, a division of the Department of Job and Eligibility Family Services (ODJFS).

Eligibility Requirements

• All Ohio Medicaid beneficiaries with disabilities or limitations that qualify them for coverage in a medical center or full-time nursing facility qualify for home care. Some seniors on Medicare are eligible for the program. Persons receiving Social Security SSI might also qualify.

In-home Medical Services

• Services include visits from registered nurses who provide routine patient assessment and follow-up, give injections, start IVs, and oversee prescribed medication and therapies compliance. Emergency response systems and home modifications are installed. Medical devices necessary for daily living and transportation might also be provided.

Daily Living Services

• Meals are delivered to the home. Trained personal aides assist those unable to feed themselves. Nutritionists provide counseling and meal planning for those with special dietary needs. Respite services are available for caregivers. A social worker coordinates all care.
