How to Take Apart a Hospital Bed

Taking apart a hospital bed can be done, but it does require some strength and knowledge of mechanical parts. This article will explain how to disassemble an Invacare Full-Automatic home style hospital bed.

  Remove the mattress from the hospital bed.

  Disconnect the Hi/Lo Motor spring-loaded coupler from the foot end by pushing inward toward the coupler and turn it counter-clockwise to lock it into position.

  Lift the head spring away from the bed frame at a 90-degree angle and disconnect the hooks at the bottom of the head spring that connect it to the top of the foot spring.

  Push the drive shaft inward toward the foot spring motor to compress the inward spring mechanism and then pull it out from beneath the bed frame.

  Remove the hitch pin from the head spring pull tube.

  Compress the head spring pull tube by pushing in the button in the adjusting hole and pushing the tube inward.

  Grab the bed frame at the top of the head spring and lift with one hand to unhook the head spring rivets from the head end corner locks.

  Unhook the foot spring from the foot end by repeating step 7.

  Lift the bed frame horizontally on its side and bend it at a 45-degree angle.

  Open the head spring from the bed frame at a 90-degree angle so that it can stand upright on its own.

  Pull the head spring away from the foot spring so that the center mounting latches at the bottom of the head spring disconnect from the center mounting rivets at the top of the foot spring.
