A caregiver is a person who provides ongoing help to an adult who is unable to live independently. A person may need a caregiver due to an illness or injury.
Responsibilities

Caregivers offer assistance with household chores, dressing and bathing, cooking, money management and errands. They also administer medication, and provide emotional support and companionship.
Types
-
Family caregivers and informal caregivers are relatives, friends or neighbors who take care of someone and are not paid for their services. Formal caregivers are paid healthcare professionals.
Physical Effects
-
The stress of caring for a sick loved one puts caregivers at risk for certain medical conditions, such as high blood pressure and heart disease.
Emotional Effects
-
Caregivers often experience emotional fatigue, which may lead to depression and/or anxiety; those responsible for patients with dementia are especially at risk.
