How to Clean Cuffs on Wrist Blood Pressure Monitors
It has been documented by numerous health care facilities that contaminated wrist sphygomomanometers (blood pressure cuffs), when not properly and routinely sanitized, may be potential sources of infection and disease transmission. The following steps will explain how to properly clean and disinfect cuffs on wrist blood pressure monitors between patient use.Things You'll Need

1
Make sure the monitor is off prior to cleaning. Mix the enzymatic detergent (Enzol) with distilled water in a spray bottle according to the manufacturer's instructions. If enzymatic detergent is unavailable, a mixture of distilled water and 10 percent bleach may be used.
-
2
Using a spray bottle, moisten a soft cloth towel with the bleach or detergent mix until it is fully saturated. Squeeze any excess moisture from the cloth to avoid any dripping or potential oversaturation of the cuff.
-
3
Beginning on the inside, lightly wipe the blood pressure cuff using a small circular motion. Continue to do this until you have wiped the entire inner portion of the cuff. Be cautious not to get any moisture in the main unit.
-
4
Once the inner cuff has been cleaned, repeat steps two and three again to clean the outside of the blood pressure cuff. A soft-bristle brush may also be used on any visibly soiled areas that may remain.
-
5
Using a dry cloth, gently wipe away any excess moisture that may remain on the blood pressure cuff. Lay the cuff flat in an unrolled position and allow the cuff to air dry.
