How to Disinfect Stryker Beds

Stryker hospital beds provide advanced surface comfort for patients as well as special surface designs for proactive care therapies. The Stryker surface options vary widely in design and maneuverability, but all bed surfaces provide easy cleaning with waterproof coverings. Flexible yet tough, Stryker bed surfaces are constructed of a sterile rubber filled with a number of padding materials (varied according to bed model) and have a hydrophobic external layer to protect patients from cross-contamination. It is this external layer that makes cleaning Stryker beds so easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove all fabric bedding layers from the Stryker mattress. Sterilize bedding by following hospital laundry procedures and return bedding to mattress only after complete disinfection.

    • 2

Prepare your cleaning agent of choice as directed by the solution's directions. All hospital safe-cleaning agents are safe for use with Stryker beds. Use the amount of solution necessary for disinfecting non-porous material and non-eating surfaces.

    • 3

Wearing rubber gloves, carefully soak the chosen cleaning agent applicator in the prepared solution. Sponges and cloths can be used for Stryker beds, as these applicators will not harm the surface. Make sure proper room ventilation is in use to avoid inhaling harmful fumes.

    • 4

Wipe down the top side and edges of the Stryker bed in a methodical pattern to avoid missing any area. Move slowly to ensure proper cleaning agent application. Repeat as directed by solution specific instructions. If necessary, follow harsh cleaning agents with skin-safe disinfectants to allow for safe use by patients.

    • 5

Wipe the underside in the same manner with the cleaning agent. Avoid application of too much liquid solution near mechanized portions of the bed and bed frame.

    • 6

Allow the cleaning solution to dry completely before preparing the Stryker bed with appropriate bedding material.
