Good Hospital Gifts
Spending time in the hospital isn't easy. Patients get lonely, bored, even depressed.Bringing small gifts to the hospital tells the patient you care. The right gift can make any hospital stay brighter and more enjoyable. Even the smallest of gifts can aid in the patients recovery and happiness.-
Blankets and Pillows
-
Hospitals use stiff, rough sheets. Lying on these kinds of heavily starched sheets is irritating. Bring the patient a soft comforter, pillow, or blanket. Some of the newer fabrics are extremely soft, almost velvet. The patient can lay the blanket or comforter on their lap, use it for bedding, or even just hold it for a comforting feeling.
Slippers and Bathrobes
-
Feet are always cold in a hospital. Bring some soft slippers to the patient. They can keep them on while they're in bed, and when they do need to get up, the patient's feet won't be chilled on the cold tile floor. Another good personal item to give a patient is a soft bathrobe to keep by the bed for those late night visits to the bathroom.
Stationery
-
Nothing can lift boredom and even depression like staying busy. Giving the patient some writing tablets, felt markers, pencils, pens or even colored markers can spark creativity. He can also start a diary, or just write down their feelings.
In some cases, the patient may not be able to talk properly. Stationery can also aid in communicating with others.
iPod and Laptop
-
For the more high-tech patients, try a pre-loaded iPod or a laptop computer. Nothing cures boredom and makes the time pass faster than music and entertainment. You can even throw in some of the patients favorite movies or newly released DVDs.
Personalized Pictures
-
Nothing is guaranteed to bring a smile faster than pictures of kids and grandkids. Have the pictures framed or maybe make a small collage. You might also consider bringing in pictures or get-well cards that were made by the kids
Books
-
Everyone likes books. Get an assortment of picture books, novels, puzzle books or magazines. Give the patient a large assortment of different books or even magazines that you know they might enjoy.
