They are staffed with licensed medical professionals who require a variety of medical tools and equipment in order to efficiently perform their duties. There are many different pieces of equipment used in a hospital setting, and most of them can be put into a few basic categories.-
Diagnostic Equipment

Diagnostic equipment is used to diagnose and treat most diseases or illnesses. Diagnostic equipment includes x-ray machines, MRI scanners or CAT scanners. These use electricity and magnetic force to look at bones or other organs to physically determine the cause of illness or injury.
Surgical Tools

Surgical tools are used during surgery to open up the patient's body in order to work on it, perform the actual task that needs to be done in the patient's body and sew it back up once the surgery is complete. Surgical tools include scalpels, lasers and scissors. Surgical tools are often kept in sterilization rooms that keep them free of germs and diseases before use.
Monitoring Equipment

Monitoring equipment makes sure patient's bodies are regulated and within safe ranges after surgery and during the hospital stay. Monitoring equipment includes blood-pressure testers, heart monitors, and pulse monitors.
Comfort Equipment

Since many hospital patients stay for several days at a time, it is important that their stay is comfortable, especially if they are having tests or surgery performed. Comfort equipment includes reclining beds, stretchers, pillows, blankets, privacy curtains, bedpans, and televisions or radios.
