Fundraising Ideas for Children's Miracle Network

Fundraising for the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) has swept across the nation. Public, private, civic and social organizations have stepped up to the plate to help young children who are ill enjoy simple moments in life. Organizing a fundraiser is not as difficult as it may seem. It is important to keep a few key points in mind as you plan your fundraiser: Think simple, develop activities people like to do, plan year-round activities, set a budget for costs and earnings, and seek out energized and community-oriented people to be involved in the planning.
  1. Silent Auction

    • Auctions are always of interest to people, especially treasure hunters. Organize a silent auction at work, church, community center or school, and set a theme. Themes might include: holidays, children's toys, horticulture items, cookbooks or art. The list of themes is limitless. Match your theme to the interest of the group you are working with on the fundraiser. Ask people to bring their items to the location of the auction a week ahead of time and set a deadline for when the bidding ends. Display items on tables and have small cards with envelopes by each item for people to write in their bid. Have a basket on the table to collect sealed bids. At the end of the bidding time, go through the bids and identify the winners. Announce the winners while everyone is gathered for snacks and socializing.

    Forager Hunt

    • A forager hunt is similar to a scavenger hunt but is designed for hunting groups and men's groups. The gist is to have men form forager teams and collect pledges to win the hunt. Set the pledge levels like: a 2 point buck, 3 point buck, 5 point buck. The pledge amount is lower for a 2 point pledge as compared to a 5 point pledge. Develop the list of items related to hunting and fishing paraphernalia. Make some easy to find and a few almost impossible. Set the date for the hunt and assemble teams in a common location to go over the rules: no pilfering, no buying and no cheating. Give the teams a time limit. Have teams reassemble at the end of the time to determine who found the most items in the quickest amount of time and followed all of the rules.

    Pockets Full of Coins

    • The pockets full of coins fundraiser is simple to organize and can bring in lots o' coinage. Ask work mates, schoolmates, housemates or club mates to select a coat or jacket with deep pockets that they pledge to fill up with silver coins (not pennies) within a set period of time. At the end of the time, have everyone wear their jacket to a closing event and ask them to empty their pockets for an accounting. A prize could be given for the deepest and most profitable pocket owner.
