Ways to Clean a Hospital Room

A hospital cleaning staff must be methodical as it works through the day to keep rooms free from bacteria and other disease-causing pathogens. Any staff that would rush through the cleaning process is not only risking the lives of patients but the lives of every hospital staff member that could be exposed to resistant bacterias that causes potentially lethal staph infections.
  1. How to Prevent Infection

    • Antibacterial germicides are applied to all surfaces that medical personnel and/or patients come into contact with. Walls, medical instruments, sinks, cleaning surfaces, operating tables, beds and the floor should all be scrubbed with these bacteria-eliminating solutions at the end of each day or after a patient has left that particular hospital room. Hospitals are also employing Air Disinfection Units to clear out airborne pathogens that don't live on hard surfaces, such as the deadly norovirus.

    How to Clean Hospital Floors

    • Abrasive sponges and pads are employed to scrub all surfaces using disinfectant within a given hospital room. This is usually done while all furniture has been removed from the room and sterilized in its own way (antibacterial germicides as described above). The disinfectant is removed through the use of a wet/dry vac which removes all the standing wet chemicals and water that could breed infection if allowed to remain.

    A Good Staff is a Certified Staff

    • According to Housekeeping Channel, hospitals that have a reputation for being clean and healthy will have the Cleaning Industry Management Standard certification posted on hospital grounds. To have certification, a hospital cleaning team must have a written cleaning plan, timed out budget so that each room receives proper cleaning time, and a system of inspection to ensure that all rooms are cleaned properly. Furthermore, certification means that an independent third party assessor has also graded the staff's cleaning skills.
