Hospital Operational Grants

Health care is an expensive business, and running a hospital costs millions of dollars annually. While patients and their insurance companies cover a large portion of the cost, operational costs often exceed income---especially in low-income communities and hospitals that specialize in advanced medical research. Several operational grants are available to offset the cost of running a public or private medical institution.
  1. The Hospital Preparedness Program

    • In 2005, the Department of Homeland Security developed the National Preparedness Goal, a plan that aims at expanding the nation's ability to prevent, respond to and recover from major disasters. Since then, the United States Department of Health and Human Services has offered grants to hospitals for development of infrastructure, modernization of emergency facilities, and education and preparedness training.

    Rural Health Grants

    • The American Hospital Association (AHA) offers hospital operational grants in the form of its Rural Health Grants program. The program offers many different operational grants, such as the Small Rural Hospital Improvement Grant Program---a grant that offers assistance to hospitals with less than 50 beds that are located in rural areas. The AHA issues grants annually, and hospitals are welcome to submit grant applications as often as they like.

    The Butterfield Memorial Foundation

    • The Butterfield Memorial Foundation is a Christian organization that offers grants to medical and health-related projects with an active Christian presence. The grants can provide for start-up and capital projects, as well as hospital operational costs. The Butterfield Memorial Foundation primarily focuses on the central Oklahoma region, but it has earmarked a small amount of funds for projects outside the area.
