How to Find a Licensed Group Home in California

Group homes in California are licensed by the state's Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD). Though the licensing process is sometimes burdensome, the result is a higher level of oversight and care in the licensed facility. If you are interested in placing yourself or a loved one in a group home, or you or a loved one have been ordered to live in a group home by the state or the courts, you can search CCLD records of all licensed facilities to determine the best placement.

Instructions

    • 1

Access the CCLD Facility Search Form, available on the CCLD website (see Resources).

    • 2

Click the arrow on the text field under the "Select Facility Type to Locate" subheading. State licensed care homes include adult residential facilities, group homes (for children) and residential care facilities for the elderly.

    • 3

Click the arrow on the text fields of the second subheading. These fields show all the ZIP codes, cities, counties and area codes in which licensed facilities operate in California. Select the identification information for the region in which you wish to find a home. If no information is selected, the search will cover licensed facilities throughout the state.

    • 4

Enter the street address or partial name of the city under subheading 2b. This optional step will further refine the search to only those licensed facilities that contain the information you listed.

    • 5

Select how you want the information presented by clicking the arrow on the right of the text field of the "Send To" subheading. You can choose among several options, including on-screen, Microsoft Word or Excel.

    • 6

Click the "Search" button, located under the Search subheading. Licensing status, capacity and contact information are listed for all licensed homes meeting your search criteria.
