What Are the Requirements for Medicaid in Spalding County, Georgia?
If you live in Spalding County, Georgia, and you need help with paying medical bills or if you are currently without health insurance, you may be eligible for Georgia Medicaid. You'll need to first satisfy certain requirements in order to get coverage. If you need health care but you don't think you meet some of the requirements, you should file an application anyway.-
Basic Requirements
-
You must have a valid Social Security number in order to get Medicaid. In addition, you must be a resident of Georgia and either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or a qualified alien; in other words, you must be in the United States legally. You'll be asked to provide official documentation of your citizenship status; acceptable documents include a U.S. passport, certificate of U.S. citizenship or certificate of naturalization. See the first link under References for a list of approved documents.
Categories
-
Only certain groups of people are eligible for Medicaid coverage in Spalding County, Georgia. Some of these groups include pregnant women, children, blind adults, disabled adults and adults who are age 65 or older. The Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) will look at whether you fit the description of any of these groups along with your citizenship status and how much income you have before deciding if you are Medicaid-eligible.
Income and Resource Limits
-
In order to get benefits, you'll need to meet the income and resource requirements of the eligibility category you belong to; these limits vary depending on which group you fall under. Income is all the money that is coming into your household, while resources are things that you own. To verify your income, you'll need to show proof such as pay stubs from work; call your local Spalding County office at 770-228-1386 to find out how you should prove your resources status.
The following are some examples of income and resource limits: if you are applying under Right from the Start Medicaid (RSM) Adults and Newborns, a Medicaid program for pregnant women and infants, your monthly income cannot be more than $3,675 for a household of four people. If you are applying under the Aged, Blind and Disabled group and you live alone, your income must be $317 a month or less and your resources cannot exceed $2,000. See References for the income and resource guidelines of your particular group.
