Medicaid Income Guidelines for Ohio

All of Ohio’s Medicaid requirements are based on the federal poverty level guidelines. Updated guidelines can be found on the Census Bureau’s website at any time, but in 2010 the guidelines are as follows: $10,830 for a family of 1, $14,570 for a family of 2, $18,310 for a family of 3, $22,050 for a family of 4, $25,790 for a family of 5, and $29,530 for a family of 6. However, the county departments of job and family services officially determine and can take additional deductions, so families slightly above the requirements should still apply.
  1. Healthy Start & Healthy Families

    • The Healthy Start & Healthy Families program provides health care coverage for children, pregnant women, and families. Children up to age 19 and pregnant women are covered if they belong to a family that earns 200 percent of the federal poverty level or less. Families who earn up to 90 percent of the federal poverty level are covered under this plan.

Older Adults & People with Disabilities

    • The Older Adults & People with Disabilities program provides health care coverage for seniors (ages 65 and above) and people with disabilities (any age). Seniors or disabled state residents may qualify if they earn 64 percent of the federal poverty level or less. However, if people earn slightly more than this they may still be able to deduct medical expenses from their income.

    Medicaid Premium Assistance Program

    • Medicaid’s Premium Assistance Program provides economic assistance with part or even all of the Medicare Part B costs, including premiums, co-payments and deductibles. Families or individuals may qualify for the Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB) category if they earn 100 percent or less of the federal poverty level. People may qualify for the Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary category if they earn up to 120 percent and for Qualified Individual-1 if they earn up to 135 percent. Disabled individuals may qualify if they earn up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

Medicaid Buy-In for Workers with Disabilities

    • The Medicaid Buy-In for Workers with Disabilities provides health care coverage for working-age state residents (ages 16 to 64) who have a disability. Individuals may qualify for this coverage if they earn 250 percent of the federal poverty level or less.
