Income Requirements for Medicaid for Children in Kansas
Medicaid is a federal-and-state-funded, state-operated health insurance program for qualifying low-income elderly and disabled individuals, pregnant women, children, and in some states, women with cervical or breast cancer, individuals with HIV/AIDS, refugees and other at-risk populations. For children under 1, household income must be less than 150 percent of federal poverty level. For household sizes of 1, 2 and 3, the respective limits are $1,354, $1,822 and $2,289.
Children Ages 1 Through 5

For children ages 1 through 5, household income must be under 133 percent of federal poverty level. For household sizes of 1, 2 and 3, the respective limits are $1,201, $1,615 and $2,030.
Children Ages 6 Through 18

For children ages 6 through 18, household income must be under 100 percent of federal poverty level. For household sizes of 1, 2 and 3, the respective limits are $903, $1,215 and $1,526.
Income Sources

Earned income, including self-employment earnings and wages, and unearned income, including child support payments, alimony, SSI, Social Security disability, veteran's benefits and pensions, for all household members are used to calculate the household income for determining Medicaid eligibility.
CHIP

If a child resides in a household that exceeds the income limits for Medicaid, the child may eligible for HealthWave 21, a children's health insurance program (CHIP) that provides coverage for those who are ineligible for Medicaid. The income limit for HealthWave 21 is 241 percent of federal poverty level. For a household sizes of 1, 2 and 3, the respective limits are $2,175, $2,927 and $3,678.
