Medicaid Requirements for Illinois
Medicaid is a state-operated, state- and federally-funded health insurance program for low-income elderly or disabled individuals, pregnant women, children and sometimes special populations such as the HIV positive, women with breast or cervical cancer and immigrants. Income, resources, residency and other requirements must be met to qualify for Illinois Medicaid.-
Approved Categories

In order to be eligible for Illinois Medicaid, you must fall into one of the approved categories. These categories include children under age 19, caretakers of children under age 19, elderly, pregnant women, disabled, certain refugees, foster and subsidized adopted children, very low-income individuals living in Chicago, hemophiliacs, individuals with chronic renal disease and sexual-assault survivors (emergency treatment only).
Income and Resources

Resources, including cash on hand, checking and savings accounts, IRAs, life insurance policies with cash value, vehicles, houses, land and other assets with a cash value typically must be less than $1,500 for an individual. One home and the property it resides on and one vehicle is allowed if the individual is living in the home and uses the vehicle as the primary form of transportation. Income limits must also be met. Residency

You must reside in the state of Illinois to receive Illinois Medicaid. Except for pregnant women and certain qualifying immigrants, you must be a U.S. citizen.
