How to Change From Florida MediPass to Medicaid

On July 1, 2006, the state of Florida instituted reforms to a program known as Florida Medicaid Provider Access System (Medipass) established in 1991. Under this revamped program, certain Medicaid-authorized health care providers are subject to new rules that are intended to provide more efficient, better services to Medicaid beneficiaries that qualify. However, due to your situation, you may not want to participate in Medipass. There is a way to opt out of the program and only participate in regular Medicaid.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide when you want to end MediPass coverage. Everyone participating in MediPass has a certain time period to decide if they want to continue to participate in the program. This is called the re-determination date and it varies by provider. You will have to do this within 30 days after the re-determination date for your Medicaid provider or you will be automatically re-enrolled for nine months.

Discontinue your relationship with your current MediPass-participating health care provider. To do this, you will have to contact Medicaid Options at 1-888-376-6554 within the time period after your re-determination date and inform them of your desires. This is the major number for Floridian Medicaid recipients who wish to change plans. You will have to provide details about your current MediPass coverage.
